Paralegal Online
A
paralegal is a non-attorney who works under the supervision of a lawyer
whose work is usually billed to the client. Paralegals have many job duties,
these including drafting motions and subpoenas, reviewing documents, and
filing papers with courts. Paralegals have traditionally dealt more with
procedural law than with substantive law.
In the United States and Canada, paralegals are allowed to work independently
as freelancers and in private practice as well as directly under the employment
of individuals or corporations. Freelance paralegals are rare and have
been the subject of much controversy, because in some cases they have
crossed the line into the "unauthorized practice of law" (UPL) defined
in state statutes as the practice of law without a license.
You can now become a paralegal with half the effort, as there are many
online paralegal schools, or law schools offering online paralegal degrees.
Just because you can gain an online paralegal degree, this does not mean
that the workload is going to be less than that of a student going to
a physical law school. Rather it means that you can take your schooling
anywhere with you. Online schooling works well for those who are too busy,
or cannot afford to move and attend they school they desire.
